Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program

The Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program is a state-level program that provides a tax credit to leverage the private redevelopment of historic buildings.  This program is highly competitive and receives applications biannually, in March and September.  Owners and long-term lessees of historically designated buildings who undertake a rehabilitation project may apply for the tax credit.

Local Support & Financial Commitment

During the application process, “Local Participation and Support” and “Financial Commitment” letters are required to score additional points.  If applicable, the City of Cincinnati’s Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) will work with applicants to provide the following for their project:

Local Participation & Support Letter

• Letter of support signed by the Mayor of Cincinnati
• Although other City of Cincinnati departments may write letters of support for your project and application, please be aware that DCED is the single point of contact for obtaining the letter of support from the Mayor.

Financial Commitment Letter
• Letter from DCED that indicates 1) your project may meet the eligibility   requirements for an incentive, and 2) outlines the rate and term of that incentive.

To receive a letter of support signed by the Mayor and the Department of Community and Economic Development, please contact Giovanni Rocco at DCED via Giovanni.Rocco@cincinnati-oh.govor at (513) 352-1960.  Starting from the time when an applicant contacts DCED, the process typically takes several weeks. As a result, please allow for enough time for completion.
